2023 #11: Arcia’s Wrist, Braves Sweep, Rosario 👀
As the Braves & Reds were knotted at four runs apiece in the bottom of the 8th, of course it was platoon-part Eddie Rosario who put the Braves ahead. The blonde left fielder decided to notch his first home run & RBI of 2023 with a single swing that sent a baseball to his teammates out in the bullpen beyond right-center.
The lead was protected by now-closer AJ Minter in the 9th with a 1-2-3 inning of the Reds’ 8, 9, & 1 batters.
The peak of the game’s drama occurred earlier in the game however, when blossoming star shortstop Orlando Arcia took a 98 mph fastball to the outside of his left wrist.
The SS went skipping down the third base line holding his hand in the other, before bending at the waist against the backstop net surrounded by coaches & trainer.
Arcia stayed in the game to run the bases but was replaced later by Ehire Adrianza. During the game, the Braves official Twitter account posted that Arcia was being evaluated. Shortly thereafter they announced the x-rays taken didn’t show a fracture.
While that’s tremendous news, it’s still unknown how much time Orlando will miss, if any, as I’m sure rest will be encouraged by the Braves staff.
It’ll be interesting to see how this develops in the coming days/weeks.
The Braves do have the luxury of an off-day on Thursday though.
The sweep of the Reds is the second series sweep by the Braves over an NL Central opponent. In fact, the two NL Central teams are the only opponents the Braves have been able to sweep this season.
The Braves resume action this weekend against the 3-9 Kansas City Royals, before meeting the Padres again; this time in San Diego.
The projected starters against Kansas City are Morton, Elder, & Wright. Kansas City is projected to start Singer, Bubic, & Greinke. Those Kansas City starters are a combined 1-4 this season.
