2023 #14: Best in NL, Without Our Best
Following Sunday afternoon’s 5-4 finishing touch on a sweep of the Kansas City Royals, the Braves own the best record in baseball’s National League. Their 12-4 start is second in baseball to only the Tampa Bay Rays of the American League East. After starting 13-0, the Rays avoided a sweep at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays to bring their record to 14-2.
The Braves do however own Major League Baseball’s longest active win streak, currently sitting at six games (as of Sunday night). The second longest win streak in baseball of four games, belongs to the National League East’s second place team, the New York Mets (the Seattle Mariners are also on a 4-game win streak).
What’s perhaps even more impressive about the Braves scorching hot start is that in these first 16 games, the Braves are 8-1 on the road. In those road games, the Braves have outscored their opponents 56-24.
Translation: the Braves are blowing teams out at their own ballpark.
