2023 #9: Sean Murphy, Bryce Elder
In what will be remembered at season’s end as another exciting walk-off win for the 2023 Braves, possible season-long story plots also began in Game One of the Reds series.
The Sean Murphy skeptics are many, as this season is still in its infancy. Those skeptics that are unfamiliar with Sean Murphy’s game prior to being employed by the Braves have had justifiable arguments for their gripe, based on his production so far in 2023.
But last night was just a glimpse of what us Murphy-believers have built the foundation of our optimism on.
The young backstop went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI, a run scored, & only one man left on base. He was equally as impressive behind the dish, stealing multiple strikes for starter Bryce Elder. You could also say that the home plate umpire had a large strikezone, but I choose to believe Murphy had an impact on the umpire’s “questionable” calls.
Murphy’s shining moment in last night’s ballgame was obviously his walk-off homerun in the 10th inning after the Reds took the lead in the top of the extra inning.

Murphy’s the first Atlanta Brave to hit a walk-off for his first home run as a Brave since current Gwinnett Striper Charlie Culberson.
