Alex Signs Relievers, What Could That Mean?
Alex Anthopoulos spent this past week bringing in/back arms for the bullpen. After acquiring Sam Hilliard via trade, he brought back reliever Jesse Chavez on a minor league deal that could turn into a $1.2 million contract if Chavo reaches Atlanta in 2023…but let’s face it, barring injury, the Braves foremost headwear fashionista will be a Brave before the end of his contract.
They also brought in relief pitcher, Nick Anderson:
Since making his MLB debut in 2019 for Miami before being a Ray until this past week, Anderson has accumulated 2.5 WAR.
Oddly enough, he pitched 43.2 innings in less than a full season with Miami. In the parts of the next three seasons with Tampa Bay, he pitched 43.2 innings.
All that to say: plugging these small holes now gives Anthopoulos the freedom to make a big splash before Opening Day 2023.
But where is that splash?
