Thanks to the City of Brotherly Love & a pair of Mississippi Braves transplants, the Atlanta Braves are now within six games of the New York Metropolitans for the National League East.
Nobody tell SNY Mets broadcaster Leith Hernandez this, but Philly’s defense saved the game for them in the 9th inning; throwing out the winning run at home from left field. This comes during the first Mets game against Philadelphia after Mets broadcaster & local idiot Keith Hernandez said ON AIR that he informed his bosses at SNY that he didn’t want to broadcast any games against the Phillies.
“…They're hot right now, I would like to see them. But as far as fundamentally and defensively the Phillies have always been just not up to it.”-Keith Hernandez on Philadelphia
Meanwhile in Miami, Jake Odorizzi had another laborious start for the Braves. The new Brave only made it through four innings before being shut down. He surrendered 8 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, 1 homerun, & only logged 2 strikeouts; all on 87 pitches.
No need to fret though. Vaughn Grissom stroked a leadoff double in the 2-2 8th inning, only to trot the rest of the way after eventual-ROTY Michael Harris II brought him in on a laser shot that left the park.
His two-run homerun would prove to be the difference in a 4-3 Braves win.
Another angle:
Tyler Matzek got the win.
Kirby Yates & AJ Minter each got a hold.
Kenley Jansen got the save.
