It was postseason baseball in August last night.
Max Fried vs Jacob deGrom. Two of the game’s greatest facing off in the midst of a division race.
It was about as even if a pitching duel as there could’ve been, but the Braves ability to use their speed to take extra bases proved to be the difference.
With the score tied at two apiece in the bottom of the 7th & rookie Vaughn Grissom standing at first, Michael Harris put the ball in play.
And when I say he put it in play, I mean he hit the ball the only possible place he could’ve to sneak it through the infield with as soft as he hit it.
While he was swinging, Vaughn Grissom W’s s already 1/3 of the way to 2nd base. By the time the ball hit the outfield grass, Grissom was taking his turn around 2nd. Thanks to Brandon Nimmo’s lack of urgency in center field & Vaughn’s sub-10 second 1st-to-home, and the throw being cut at the mound only to be relayed to the plate, Grissom snuck under the tag at home for the go-ahead run.

After we took the lead, it was time for Fried to enjoy the fruits of his labor. AJ Minter came on in the 8th to get the first two. Raisel ended the Mets 8th with a Starling Marte grounder to Vaughn Grissom.
Kenley Jansen shut the door completely in the 9th to earn his 28th save of the season. Pretty good way to spend his lone year in Atlanta before Raisel takes over next season.
