Braves Win in Queens, 5-2
Brian Snitker pushed Max Fried’s start back one day, opting for him to start Game One against the Mets instead of Game Three against the Rangers. That paid off.
Fried pitched six innings of 2-run, 6-k ball. Only Mets runs allowed while Fried was on the mound was Mark Canha’s solo home run (his first HR as a Met) & a wild pitch that allowed Starling Marte to capitalize. Sixty-four of Fried’s 90 pitches were strikes.
Random tidbit: his most similar pitcher in terms of velocity & movement (according to Baseball Savant) is 2021 Tucker Davidson.
The Mets never could get any offense strung together enough to push across runs in bunches. Collin McHugh put out the only real fire all night when the Mets had the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th when McHugh struck Mark Canha out to end the inning.
Braves pitchers were able to keep the Mets best hitters off the bases all night; Lindor, Alonso, & Nimmo ended the night hitless. In fact, Marte, Canha, & McNeil were the only New Yorkers to register a hit last night.
Travis d’Arnaud on the other hand, went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI against his former employer. Austin Riley added a solo shot in the top of the 4th & a single in the 6th. Ozzie added two hits of his own, rounding out the Braves hitters with multiple hits.
Acuña legged out an infield single, showing off his rehabilitated ACL.
Charlie Morton & Kyle Wright will take the mound for the Braves in today’s double-header.
