Crazy 8’s
Last night was the night of the Ocho.
The Braves logged eight hits on the night. They won their eighth consecutive game. And most importantly, there’s reports of an 8-year contract being discussed by the Braves & Michael Harris II.
But about last night…Charlie Morton pitched like it was the postseason. It was BY FAR his best performance since he suffered a broken leg in last year’s World Series.
He threw 6.2 scoreless innings and struck out a dozen Mets batters on the way. He had New York’s lineup completely pretzeled. There were multiple at-bats where the Mets swung at every pitch thrown outside the zone & watched every pitch thrown for a strike. It was a thing of beauty, hope it continues.
Money Mike
Young Georgian Michael Harris II is reportedly about to sign an 8-year deal with the Atlanta Braves for a REPORTED $72 million. If that’s true, Alex Anthopoulos will be banned from baseball by Rob Manfred (joke).
That contract averages out to $9 million per year.
NINE MILLION?!
Nine million dollars for a guy that has a legitimate argument to be included in the “best CF in baseball” conversation. He’s an absolute weapon, a true 5-tool player.
For comparison’s sake, if Michael Harris II signs an 8-year/$72 million deal, his Average Annual Value will rank - among all CF’s in baseball - below Byron Buxton ($9,142,857) & above Druw Jones ($8,189,400).
Yes, THAT Druw Jones. Just drafted out of high school, son of Andruw Jones…Druw Jones.
