Daily Braves Inaugural Evers Award Winner Announced
The Evers MVP Award winner has been selected & announced.
Johnny Evers (pictured above) is the Braves franchise first ever MVP recipient. He was named the 1914 National League’s Most Valuable Player in his first season with the Boston Braves. Playing on a four-year contract worth $10,000 AAV with a $20,000 signing bonus, he helped the Braves win the first World Series in franchise history in 1914 when they swept the Philadelphia Athletics.
But as for the award, the established criteria for a player to be considered for & ultimately be selected as that year’s “Evers Award” winner is largely based on the eye test. Even in the game of baseball, which seems to have a stat or metric for every single thing that can happen in a baseball game, some things just don’t show up in the box score. But, if the eye that’s conducting the eye test is credible & of a superior quality, conventional wisdom suggests that the eye test should be justified by statistical evidence in the quest for confirmation.
