If Time Stood Still
Yonny’s debut, back-to-back jacks, Pierce Johnson’s 2nd appearance, blowout.
Newly-acquired starting pitcher Yonny Chirinos debuted for Atlanta in Game One vs Milwaukee.
His first inning of work was quick & effective, just how I prefer baseball with the Braves in the field. If only time could’ve stopped there…
His next 2.2 innings of work were a tad more busy than Inning No. 1. He finished his outing with 2 outs in the 4th & two men on base; surrendering six hits, one base on balls, and striking out three with four earned runs sprinkled in.
The Braves offense did their best to prolong Chirinos’ outing, but the basepaths needed a breather.
McHugh relieved Yonny with two men on & two outs. McHugh bowed his chest & sat down Christian Yelich down looking, keeping the deficit at one run.
Complimentary baseball must’ve been on Marcell Ozuna’s To-Do List though as he stroked one in the bottom half of the inning to bring us back even at four runs apiece.
His homerun traveled 411 feet at 109.6 mph at 26°.
After Acuña got on base to lead off the 5th he made quick work of getting into scoring position when he stole his 49th base of the season. The very next pitch Ozzie singled past the 2nd baseman to bring Ronnie home for the Braves 5th run.
Atlanta would add another run on a Matt Olson sacrifice fly to Yelich in left after Ozzie went 1st-to-3rd on an Austin Riley single to left, one batter before.
Milwaukee reliever Hoby Milner would strikeout Marcell Ozuna & Eddie Rosario in consecutive at-bats to end the Atlanta threat in the bottom of the 5th.
Speaking of new Braves pitchers, Pierce Johnson made his second appearance for the Braves when he came in in the 6th. First off, he didn’t deserve the amount of slander he received from his work in Boston. He did his job that night, the fielders didn’t field. But I digress, Pierce made quick work of the Brew Crew striking out the first batter faced on a FILTHY slide-piece; followed by a baserunner and a tailor-made double play to get the boys back on offense.
🚨 LAST FREE ARTICLE OF THE SEASON 🚨
A solo shot Ding Dong from Young Thicc put the boys up 7-4, immediately followed by a solo shot from franchise 1st baseman Matt Olson for back-to-back jacks off the Braves’ 2020 NLCS star Bryse Wilson.
8-4 Good Guys.
The eight runs would be enough for the Braves to take care of business, but they’re greedy. Eddie added two runs later in the inning when he singled home Ozuna & Murphy to welcome new Brewers reliever J. C. Mejía to the ballgame to make it 10-4 Braves.
Braves reliever Ben Heller was going through it though. He put two guys on them gave up a 3-run shot to the right field fans, followed by a walk, ending his night early.
Kirby Yates (who has been phenomenal lately) cleaned up his mess to get out of the 8th without anymore damage.
Raisel Iglesias earned his 19th save of the season to secure the Game One victory.
The Braves will send out Bryce Elder to face Julio Teheran on Saturday; first pitch is scheduled for 7:20 p.m.
