Recent Ledger
It’s been a week full of activity for the most active General Manager in baseball. Anthopoulos has made a flurry of moves since the third day of December.
In order:
Traded RHP Cole Phillips and RHP Jackson Kowar to Seattle Mariners for LHP Marco Gonzales, OF Jarred Kelenic and 1B Evan White.
Signed free agent CF Leury García to a minor league contract.
Signed free agent RHP Jorge Juan to a minor league contract.
Traded LHP Marco Gonzales and cash to Pittsburgh Pirates for Player To Be Named Later.
Signed free agent LHP Angel Perdomo.
Traded 1B Evan White and LHP Tyler Thomas to Los Angeles Angels for C Max Stassi and SS David Fletcher.
Traded C Max Stassi and cash to Chicago White Sox for Player To Be Named Later.
Simplified: Traded away Cole Phillips & Jackson Kowar for Jarred Kelenic, David Fletcher, two Players To Be Named Later/Cash Considerations, & signed Angel Perdomo and Leury García.
And those Players To Be Named Later can be reclamations of players involved in the original trades: Marco Gonzales, Nicky López, Mike Soroka, Jared Shuster, & Braden Shewmake.
Two Biggest Additions
David Fletcher is no doubt going to be our utility guy. The role previously manned by Orlando Arcia & most recently Nicky López. Fletcher’s not going to add to Atlanta’s homerun tally by any significant amount, if at all. But what he will do is keep the merry-go-round running. As soft of a hitter as he is, he makes consistent contact.
So much contact, that he hasn’t eclipsed the 17% whiff rate his entire career. In 2019, 2020, & 2021 he had the lowest Whiff% in baseball. In those same three seasons, he finished in the 98th percentile, 98th percentile, & 100th percentile in K-Rate.
