The Braves are the last team in baseball one would consider “needy”, but that doesn’t mean they can’t improve.
By improve, I don’t mean in the traditional sense where if you assigned the team a numbered score based on cumulative talent. I mean improve in the sense that you have an answer to any matchup question that arises in the real season: the postseason.
Games, innings, situational baseball, & at-bats in the postseason are individual battles in a vacuum that influence everything thereafter. Something as “detailed” as having just one more left-handed reliever to use to face a lefty at the plate to escape a Matzek-like pickle can save an entire bullpen for the series.
As far as left-handed relievers are concerned, the Braves only have two now that Luetge was recalled earlier today; Minter is the other lefty.
But I’ve identified a left-handed reliever that no one is talking about, who may or may not be on the market as we approach the Trade Deadline; that fits the mold of an Anthopoulos acquisition…
