On Monday, Alex Anthopoulos plucked Catcher, Manny Piña from the pool of MLB free agents.
Contract
Piña was awarded a 2-year/$8 million contract. In 2022, Piña will be owed $3.5 million, $4.5 million in 2023, and a $4 million club option for 2024 with no buyout.
His 2022 salary ranks him 16th among MLB catchers; sandwiched between Austin Hedges (Cleveland, $3.75M) & Mitch Garver (Minnesota, $3.25M).
This contract is the richest of his career. His previous contract was for 1 year at $1.65 million in Milwaukee.
In my opinion, Piña was the best available free agent catcher this offseason. His closest competition was Martin Maldonado & Roberto Perez.
